Associate Professor Ian Francis

Ian Francis is a Consultant Ophthalmologist, Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of New South Wales, and a VMO in Ophthalmology at Prince of Wales Hospital in Sydney.
Ian see patients at the Katoomba rooms on Wednesdays and also at private Ophthalmic Practices in Chatswood, Sydney. He operates at Chatswood Private Hospital as well as consults in the Outpatient Clinic of the Ocular Plastics Unit. He contributes to Neurology Grand Rounds and teaches Neuro-ophthalmology, all at Prince of Wales Hospital.
Ian has worked and studied worldwide, including in England, Europe, USA, the Philippines, Myanmar, Vietnam and West Africa. He is the author of 262 publications to date.
Ian’s PhD on ‘The watery eye’ was awarded in 2007. He is currently completing his DSc, entitled ‘Cataracts and cataract-related disorders in Medicine: Developing an understanding of cataracts in relation to aetiology, associations and management in 2018’.
He shares the leadership of the Sydney Ophthalmology Writers Group held every second Saturday for the last eight years. Here, Medical students, Medical Graduates, and Ophthalmology Consultants and Professors meet to write publications on most aspects of Ophthalmology.
